Spatial Maps

Resolved maps connect the particle-scale dust model to galaxy morphology and local environment.

For every map, record

  • halo and snapshot/redshift;
  • center and orientation method;
  • projected half-size or radius;
  • line-of-sight depth;
  • pixel size;
  • smoothing/deposition method; and
  • any minimum-particle or signal cut.

Dust and gas maps should use deliberately matched geometry when their ratio or spatial correlation is interpreted.

Resolution and smoothing

A visually smooth map is not automatically a higher-resolution measurement. Gas smoothing lengths, dust sampling, projection depth, and any explicit Gaussian smoothing all set effective spatial scales. Comparisons to observational maps should match the relevant resolution before comparing morphology or power spectra.
